TRACEY DEVINE (DECEMBER 1998)
Pictured four months after the Omagh bombing, she was the last survivor to leave hospital. She had learned of her twenty-month-old daughter Breda’s death six weeks after the atrocity — the worst of the Troubles — while still under sedation for her own injuries, which included sixty-percent burns. ‘She will always be in our thoughts,’ she told reporters as she left hospital three days before Christmas, to be with her three other children and her husband at their family home near Strabane. Her courage was simply inspirational.
