Sir Edward Carson addressing a mass parade of the Ulster Volunteer Force at Balmoral, July 1913.
Local oligrachs in north-east Ulster and others throughout the Conservative establishments in England had placed substantial funds into the hands of the Ulster Volunteer Force for organisation, training, manufacture and purchase of transport vehicles, ambulances, uniforms and even for the purchase of arms in very large quantities. Craig is standing on the right of the photograph.
