NIEDERMAYER FUNERAL (MARCH 1980)

Mrs Ingerborg Niedermayer walks behind the coffin of her husband, West German consul and industrialist Thomas Niedermayer. The IRA had buried his body in a shallow grave, where it was found seven years later. Mrs Niedermayer was a very dignified, very refined woman. Our behaviour as photographers at the funeral was disgracful. Mrs Niedermayer went back to West Germany, but returned to Ireland in 1990. She checked into a hotel near Dublin and her body was found washed up on a beach a week later.
