IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER (JANUARY 1980)
The funeral of Giuseppe Conlon. I had known him when I ran the bar. A quiet man, he wasn’t a regular customer. He was wrongly convicted of being part of an IRA bombing campaign, along with members of the Maguire family, his son Gerry and the rest of the Guildford Four. A feature film was later made about the father and son’s story. For me it did not capture the sorrow of the family on this day. Few media were present but the dignity of widow Sarah Conlon stood above all else.
