Cartoon attributed to John Fergus O'Hea, (ca. 1838-1922), 1887.

Erin lies on the floor of a lion's cage as the “Tory” lion prepares to devour her. Gladstone stands outside the cage holding a rifle with the word “Democracy” written on it. Ireland lies there powerless. She holds in her right hand a crown or collar with the words “Home Rule” written on it. Caption underneath reads: In the lion’s den. (After celebrated picture by Gabriel Maz.) Erin has been dragged into the Tory Den, but happily there is an “ardent admirer” not far off.
